How do I know which products are of the best quality?

When determining quality, there are many factors to consider beyond just the price. When it comes to solar equipment, the most important things to consider are: materials/manufacturing, efficiency/durability, and warranty.  At HahaSmart we carry a wide range of high quality products, giving you the option to compare different brands and manufacturers and decide what is best for your property.  If you have any questions about specific brands or product comparison, we encourage you to seek advice from a professional installer.

How does solar equipment work?

Solar panels turn sunlight into electric energy. A solar panel works by allowing photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, thus generating a flow of electricity. Solar panels consist of many, many smaller units called photovoltaic cells (PVs). During daylight hours, PV cells absorb the energy from the sun and convert it to direct current (DC) electricity. An inverter is used to change DC electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity, which is then ready to power your home or business. The solar panels are attached to your roof with a simple and sturdy racking system.

What stops the electricity from flowing back into the solar panel at night?

Some solar panels have bypass diodes integrated into the panel to stop this, but it is always worth checking on any proposed purchase.

What is net metering?

It is a system in which solar panels or other renewable energy generators are connected to a public-utility power grid and surplus power is transferred onto the grid. Net Metering is a billing mechanism that credits solar energy system owners for the electricity they add to the grid.
